Description: Up for sale is an antique copper plate, uncolored engraved map of "SKETCH OF THE HARBOURS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF EIMEO" - Queensland. The map is from one of Cook's Voyages by mapmakers J. Cook & Duff. Plate X, Vol. II, P. 79. The map shows longitude, latitude and sounding depths. Captain James Cook (1728-1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. He made detailed maps and made 3 voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian islands. Circa: 1781 - OVER 230 YEARS OLD!! - It is blank on the reverse side. Generally, the map is in Good Condition. There are no folds in the map, however, there are a few pin pricks in the border areas. It measures approximately 9" x 11". It is not matted or framed. The map has toning, staining, browning and has some foxing. There are nicks and chips around the edges of the border. The bottom edge is torn from where it was originally bound. Other stains and dings here and there. This antique map is a fabulous piece of history!
