Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Cityscape of Chicago, Illinois An American History Illustration This fascinating pair of views provides a sweeping assessment of Chicago’s successful rebuilding efforts in the years immediately following the Great Fire of 1871. The upper image shows a view of the city from the Water Works on the North Side – one of the few structures in the path of the blaze to survive. Immediately below is a glimpse of the entrance to the Chicago River, crammed with ships and overseen by the lighthouse (right side). Both scenes show the Interstate Industrial Exposition Building (future site of the Art Institute), early bridges, several large grain elevators, and a variety of merchant vessels and pleasure craft. The view was drawn by Alfred Waud, an artist best known today for his illustrations made for Harper’s Weekly during the American Civil War. One of Waud’s descendants, Cornelius, would later become the mayor of Lake Forest, Illinois.~~~ A highly detailed illustration from a vintage United States history book depicting scenes of America in the early 1870s.Related/Unrelated Text on Reverse~~~~~~~~Published by Lyle Stuart, Inc., Secaucus, New JerseyRelated/Unrelated Text and/or Illustration on Reverse (not shown)FULL PAGE Size: Approximately 8.5" X 12" OversizedCondition: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Fair - Poor (but of historical interest)Superficial age and handling wear << Click Here to See Other History Prints >> This is an Original Print- Not a Reproduction Important: P/H is combined on multiple items that can be mailed together. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
