Description: Cleopatra and Mark Antony, 51-30 B.C., this type approx. 32-31 B.C, Chalkis (Syria) mint, SNG-COP 383, R.P.C.1 -4771, approx. 21-22 mm diameter, 7.1 gm. One side shows the bare head of Marc Antony to the right, and the opposite side shows the diademed and draped bust of Cleopatra to the right. One site offering some history indicated that Mark Antony illigitimately "bestowed" a number of territories in the East on Cleopatra, including Chalkis (Syria), in 36 B.C., which she added to her royal dominions. These coins of Chalkis were dated with both Egyptian and Phoenician regnal dates of Cleopatra. This piece still shows the rounded cheek of Cleopatra along with good facial detail. On the back and top of her head, hair detail still shows, and her drapery still shows some detail. Mark Antony still shows front facial detail, and separation of the hairline from the face, at the ear and forehead. Both sides are mostly medium to dark brown, with the highest surfaces showing a more copper color. Some light green patina can be seen at certain angles of light.
