Gnaeus Pompey Junior was the elder son of Pompey the Great, and alongside his brother Sextus Pompey became a leader of the aristocracy party following their father 's defeat at Pharsalus. Unlike his father, Junior managed to stay alive and flee to North Africa and later to Spain where a large Pompeian force was waiting. Caesar moved to Africa and crushed the forces of Cato, then moved to Spain where after a fierce battle at Munsa 45 B.C. the Pompeians were defeated.
