Description: Colclough Cup & Saucer Floral Sprays Yellow Green Purple Leaves w/Gold 1939-1945 Exquisite Decorative COLCLOUGH CHINA Cup & Saucer, FLORAL SPRAYS w/PURPLE & GREEN LEAVES, From Longton, Staffordshire, England, Circa 1939-1945 DESCRIPTION: This simple but elegant pattern uses a large floral sprays on both the cup & saucer. The floral sprays have unusual purple and green leaves with pastel yellow, blue and pink flowers Each piece also has unique cartouches of cross hatching on a yellow background with a green oval containing 9 geometric shapes. There is elegant purple scrollwork surrounding this artwork. The rims are trimmed in gold as is the cup's handle. The interior of the cup has a single gold band on the high white of the porcelain. CONDITION: The condition of this Colclough set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches, rubbings or hairlines. There is no color or gold wear. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The deep saucer has a diameter of 5 1/2" with a height of 7/8". The cup has a diameter of 3 1/4" and a height of 2 5/8". The capacity of the cup is 6 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: In 1890, Herbert Joseph Colclough, ex-mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, founded Colclough China Company. After great expansion by Colclough Ltd. in the 1930’s, they started to produce the tea and dinnerware that we know today. They were the first to produce fine bone china for the every day market. This was sold by the piece eliminating the need for large sets to be purchased enabling many more to afford the fine china. According to Geoffrey Godden in Encyclopaedia of British and Porcelain Marks, the mark on this trio is his mark #991 which was used 1939-1945.
