Description: For sale is one of the most exceptional drawings that we have had the privilege to sell here in our eBay store. This drawing is by the Colorado artist Francisco Sotomayor (1956 - The artist works in various media, including oil and pencil, but is now most renowned for his Colorado marble sculpture. This is an earlier work from the artist dated 1984. The artist is self taught which is quite amazing considering the exceptional quality, fine detail, and exquisite composition of this drawing. This drawing features a very poignant portrait of a ballerina sitting on the floor of the ballet studio taking off her stockings and pointe shoes after a practice session in the studio. You can almost sense the softness in her wool leg warmers, the wear of her pointe shoes, the sweat in her hair. The realism in this drawing in superb. We took some pictures outdoors in natural sunlight, and we took some indoors in artificial light. The pictures with the darker rich black saturation in her shirt and hair are more accurate to the artwork in person. The outdoor natural sunlight tends to scatter a little bit more off of the sweater and hair, looking a little less black. Signed lower right by the artist. NO GLASS FRAMED AND MATTED Condition: Overall good. Some wear to the surface on the picture frame. Some of my art work includes oil paintings and pencil drawings, but prefer the elegance and challenges of sculpting using Colorado Yule Marble" Francisco Sotomayor was born in 1956. He is a self-taught artist who does oil painting, pencil drawing, woodworking, and marble sculpting. Francisco is an advocate of realism and believes in putting the human experience and the human scale at the center of his artistic endeavors. Francisco’s work draws a comparison to the great Master of the Renaissance, Michelangelo and the Master of the Baroque, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, both of whom had influence on Francisco. He has the unique ability to carve out the marble as only Michelangelo did.
