Description: Comfrey is such a versatile plant, with so many uses for the homestead. Its deep taproots mine down into the earth, harvesting trace minerals and other nutrients. Planting your own assures that you'll always have some available for use in making liquid fertilizer, compost, animal fodder, mulch, balms and salves, etc. Why Russian Bocking 14 comfrey? The non-invasive Bocking-14 cultivar will not produce viable seeds to spread where it's not wanted. It will come back year after year, but only in the spots you've planted it. Your purchase is for 10 root cuttings of Bocking 14 comfrey cut into 1 to 2-inch lengths. These are packaged in a damp paper towel inside a ziplock bag within 1 day of shipping to assure they arrive fresh. Root cuttings are the only way to propagate the Bocking 14 cultivar, since seeds produced are sterile. Our comfrey is grown using natural methods, without the use of any chemicals. When you receive your cuttings, you'll need to plant them in soil 2 inches deep and keep them watered. Plants will emerge within 3 to 5 weeks. You can start the root cuttings in pots, but will need to transplant them to a spot in the ground that receives at least moderate sunlight. They will not do well growing in a pot. Although we are not certified organic, our plants are grown using beyond-organic methods. We use our own plants to make salves and balms, feed our goats, make liquid fertilizer, and add to our compost -- we do not use chemicals of any kind.
