Description: Commemorative coin of the National Bank of Ukraine "Kholodnyi Yar" with a face value of 5 hryvnias (in booklet), is dedicated to the historical area in Ukraine, full of ancient Cossack traditions.Kholodnyi Yar is a relict forest area of 6,804 hectares in Cherkasy region (Chyhyryn and Kamianka districts), which is of historical and environmental significance. Kholodnyi Yar ranks first in Ukraine in terms of the number of unique archaeological, historical, and scientific sites, with more than 150 of them. Scattered throughout the forest and fields around it are mounds of Scythian and later eras. In Kholodnyi Yar, archaeologists have found traces of all archaeological cultures, starting with the Trypillian arable culture, which originated in the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine 5-4 thousand years before Christ. In the Kholodnoyarsky forests, there are the remains of several ancient settlements surrounded by earthen ramparts, the height and width of which is still impressive, as well as the ruins of underground churches and caves. The largest settlement, Scythian or Motronynske (VI century BC), is included in the list of cultural monuments of international importance. In the center of this settlement stands a nineteenth-century architectural monument - the Trinity Church of the Motronyno Holy Trinity Monastery.Among the local natural monuments, the most famous is a thousand-year-old oak tree named after one of the Haidamak leaders, Maksym Zalizniak. It was from Kholodnyi Yar that the social and national liberation movement of 1768-1769 in Right-Bank Ukraine, the Koliivshchyna uprising against the Polish gentry, led by Maksym Zalizniak and Ivan Honta, began in the spring of 1768. In 1919-1922, the rebels of the Kholodnoyarska Republic acted here under the flag of the Ukrainian People's Republic. At various times, Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Hetmans Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Petro Doroshenko, Ivan Vyhovsky, and Ivan Mazepa, philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda, composer Petro Tchaikovsky, and poet Taras Shevchenko, who dedicated his poem "The Haidamaks" and his poem "Kholodnyi Yar" to the ravine, visited Kholodnyi Yar.Specifications :Face value5 hryvniasMetal nickel-silverDiameter, mm35.0Weight, g 16.5Quality special uncirculatedEdge groovedMintage, pcs40 000Year 2019
