Description: Here is a dinner plate from Commodore Cruise Line. Information from a website tells us beginning in 1966, Commodore Cruise Line was one of the true trailblazers in offering weekly cruises from Miami to the Caribbean. Building to a fleet of three vessels, dubbed the Happy Ships, it sailed on these routes, developing a solid reputation for tried and true cruises, for more than two decades. The line became known for theme cruises...Oktoberfest, Mayfest, Country and Western...which it also pioneered. In 1987, Commodore was acquired by Effjohn International, a Scandinavian company that operates one of the world's largest passenger fleets, and was merged first with Bermuda Star Line and later with Crown Cruise Lines, a company in which Effjohn has ownership. Through it all, Commodore maintained its separate identity and moved away from the stiff competition of the new megaliners in Florida to New Orleans where, until recently, it had the only Caribbean cruises departing weekly, year-round. In late spring of 1995, Commodore Cruise Line was acquired by a group of Miami investors, headed by travel industy veteran Fred Mayer, a founder of Regency Cruise and former head of Exprinter, a tour and cruise wholesale company. Homer Laughlin manufactured this 10 1/2 inch dinner plate in 1986 (or 1987). Condition of this plate is pristine as it looks like it was never used. It weighs over 1 1/2 pounds! The steamship name is on the top in cobalt blue and an accent band of blue is around the rim. There are a few small skips in the border but they don't detract. It would make a great addition to any steamship or restaurant ware collection. I have several of these plates and will gladly combine shipping.We ship US Priority Mail ONLY!
