Description: Here is a very cool, one of a kind opportunity to see exactly what a famous and influential music critic-- newspaper columnist would get when a new LP comes out. The PR package is from 1971 from a well known San Francisco psychedelic artist. Country Joe MacDonald had just left the Fish (Barry Melton and band) to strike out on his own. Joy Johnston was doing publicity for his new album and wrote a cover letter to critic Ralph Gleason describing Country Joe's move and his travel plans. The full package includes the letter, press photo, three page biography, track by track credits, and lyric sheets to the title track plus Playin' With Fire and Air Algiers--and of course the LP itself in white promo sleeve. Record is VG+ or a little better. Sleeve has a clean repair of the bottom seam and some flaking on the sides but is intact. Gleason would have been a key reviewer of the album since he was a co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine (his name is still on the masthead along with Hunter S. Thompson according to Wikipedia), a co-founder of the Monterey Jazz Festival, a critic for Downbeat magazine and the long time music critic for the San Francisco Chronicle. A one-of-a-kind find. Just for comparison with Country Joe's early work, I will throw in a nice VG+ copy of Country Joe and the Fish's first LP from 1967--Electric Music for the Mind and Body. Shipping insurance will be added to the final bid. Non-U.S. destinations may have a surcharge.
