Wilmington, Delaware, 1961 date?. Program for Critic's Choice at The Playhouse Theatre. Front cover is lightly stained at blank margins, else fine condition. Accompanied by Autograph Note Sigend: "Constance Gantt", 1p, 7x3. Wilmington, Delaware, 1961 April 13. To Donna. CONSTANCE GANTT had most likely also served as an usher at this production of Critic's Choice. "Donna" was possibly child actress DONNA BRYAN, who appeared in The Miracle Worker. Slightly soiled. Irregularly cut at blank right edge, binding holes at blank left margin. Fine condition. Critic's Choice, written by Ira Levin, was presented on Broadway from December 14, 1960-May 27, 1961 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The original Broadway production of this play was produced and directed by OTTO PREMINGER (1906-1986), who produced, directed and staged a number of Broadway plays between 1935-1973. Perhaps best known as a film director, Preminger was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Director for Laura (1944) and The Cardinal (1963). HENRY FONDA (1905-1982), BILLIE ALLEN (1925-2015), VIRGINIA GILMORE (1919-1986), EDDIE HODGES (born in 1947), GEORGEANN JOHNSON and MILDRED NATWICK (1905-1994) reprised their Broadway roles in this production. Dion Kapakos, the role played by LOU ANTONIO (born in 1934), had been portrayed by Murray Hamilton on Broadway. Fonda, who won his first Tony Award in 1958 for Mister Roberts, was nominated for a Tony for Clarence Darrow (1975) and given a special Tony Award in 1979. The stage and screen actor had also been nominated for an Academy Award for The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and won the Best Actor Oscar for On Golden Pond in 1981, the year after he received an honorary Academy Award. This was the last Broadway appearance of Gilmore, who was married to Yul Brynner from 1944 until their divorce in 1960. Child actor Hodges won the 1958 World Theatre Award for The Music Man. After making this play, left Broadway to appear on numerous TV shows. Natwick who was nominated for two Tony Awards (Best Featured Actress in a Play, The Waltz of the Toreadors, 1957; Best Actress in a Musical, 70, Girls, 70 in 1972) was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for Barefoot in the Park (1967). Antonio won the 1959 World Theatre Award for The Buffalo Skinner. Two items.
