Description: 1920-1939 The Cross of the Brave was established by the order of the Polish Defense Council on August 11, 1920 with the aim of rewarding persons who showed courage and courage directly on the battlefield [1] This was just before the Battle of Warsaw. In the interwar period, the authorities of the Polish Republic (1918-1939) awarded the Cross of the Brave to participants in the battles for the revival of the Polish state: legionnaires, members of the POV, soldiers of the Soviet-Polish war of 1919-1921, Greater Poland and Silesian rebels and others. All veterans of the January Uprising (1863) who were alive at the time of granting were also awarded this award exclusively. The Cross of the Brave was also awarded to foreigners, including Ferdinand Foch and Henri Philippe Petain. During this period, about 60,000 people were awarded. The presentation of the Brave Cross was completed on May 29, 1923. 1939-1945 (Polish Armed Forces in the West, Home Army) The Cross of the Brave was re-established by order of the commander-in-chief of the Polish Armed Forces, General Władysław Sikorski, from 1940. In military formations and military formations subordinated to the Government of Poland in exile (including the Polish Armed Forces in the West, the Home Army, the Anders Army and others), about 25,000 were awarded. 1943-1989 The Cross of the Brave was re-established by the Decree of the Polish Committee for National Liberation on December 22, 1944. By the same Decree, some changes were made to the Statute of the Cross of the Brave, its statute and description. For services to the Polish Republic, the Cross of the Brave was awarded to both Polish citizens and foreigners. The right to award the Cross of the Brave belonged to the High Command of the Polish People's Army, which fought against the fascist invaders on the territory of the USSR. The first award of the Cross of the Brave during World War II took place in November 1943. The first awarded were 46 soldiers and officers of the 1st Polish Infantry Division named after Tadeusz Kosciuszko, who distinguished themselves in battles near the village of Lenino (Mogilev region, Belarusian SSR) on October 12-13, 1943, who fought as part of the Red Army against the Nazi invaders on the territory of the USSR ... The awardees were presented with insignia of military distinction with the date "1943". The crosses of the first issue in small numbers were made at the Moscow Mint and were a copy of the pre-war crosses with a changed date on the lower shoulder. The crosses were made of dark bronze. By the end of 1989, more than 40,000 Brave Cross awards had been made.
