Description: CT Tielsch Altwasser Vegetable Bowl 1887-1900 Purple Floral w/Gold Hand Painted A beautiful CENTERPIECE BOWL with LIGHT PURPLE CARNATIONS with Grey LEAVES, SWIRL EMBOSSING & SCALLOPED RIM from Carl Tielsch, Circa 1887-1900 from Altwasser, Silesia, Germany Description: This superb quality china has colors that are soft and pastel. This is decorated on a blank of high white fine china that is molded into a swirl embossing with a scalloped rim. The rim is trimmed with a wide gold band that ends in stippled gold paint going towards the center. The well drawn light purple carnations are nestled in their grey leaves and have lighter grey ghost leaves to give depth to the design. The leaves and the flowers have soft yellow highlights. This is very fetching and well done! Condition: While this bowl is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be no age appropriate wear to the gold and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. The lack of utensil scratches attests to the high quality of the porcelain china. Dimensions: The bowl has a diameter of 9 5/8" and a height of 2 5/8". History/Marks: Carl Tielsch and Gideon von Wallenberg (a banker from Wroclaw) in 1845 founded the porcelain factory C. Tielsch & Co. in Altwasser, Silesia, Germany. Today this is called Stary Zdroj, a district of Walbrzych, Poland. In 1861, Tielsch was awarded the title of “Royal Trade Counsellor” to acknowledge his contribution to Silesian industry. After his death in 1882, he was succeeded by his son Egmont. In 1918, C.M. Hutschreuther in Hohenberg acquired the majority of the company’s stock and merged the factory with its company in Hohenberg while continuing to use the C.T. Germany mark. The Tielsch factory is still producing today and is now called “Fabryka Porcelany Walbrzych S.A.” From 1920-1945, the mark included the last 2 digits of the year of manufacture.
