Description: ~Guaranteed Authentic~ José Segura Ezquerro (d.1963) was born in the Andalusian city of Almeria, Spain in 1897 and studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Almeria followed by the Royal Academy of San Fernando, Madrid and the School of Graphic Arts in Madrid. After working as an illustrator in Bordeaux, France and as a mapmaker for the allies at the end of WWI in Paris, he went to Cuba with his father, who was a speech therapist at the then called Instituto de Sordomudos y Anormales (Institute of the Deaf and Abnormal). Segura Ezquerro became an instructor there and also drew portraits of many of the children who lived there. This is one of those drawings and may have been exhibited in 1927. This framed pencil/graphite portrait is signed and dated J Segura HABANA 1925 in the lower right corner. The drawing was done on paper and there might be a slight toning on the paper although I believe the paper was already a tan color to begin with. There are a couple of small creases that are hard to see and one larger, more distinct bend in the upper right corner (pic #6) where you can also see the burn from the matting that is unseen when framed and matted. The glass appears to be anti-glare and the frame is an antiqued silver color that is in very good shape. There is no paper on the back and a business card for Elias Benabib (original retailer) is attached to the backing board. Fantastic piece from one of Spanish/Cuban artist José Segura Ezquerro's well know stages during the early 20th century! Shipping will be via USPS priority mail, will be insured for the full amount and will require a signature for delivery. We can remove the glass to reduce the possibility of anything happening to the drawing if you'd like but please let us know in a separate message.
