The DM&E was a large 1,103 mile regional railroad operating in the prairie Midwest. The DM&E was a large 1,103 mile regional railroad operating in the prairie Midwest. The line was purchased in 1986 from the Chicago & NorthWestern and operated for 22 years before being acquired in October of 2008 by the Canadian Pacific. Shot during the summer of 2008, this program shows a system-wide look at the DM&Es last season as an independent railroad. Starting in Winona, DM&E trains are seen traveling across the corn fields of Minnesota, then onto the great plains and wheat fields of South Dakota. Next the DM&E rolls through the Badlands to Rapid City. The train action then continues into the state of Wyoming and to the bentonite mines at Colony. This program features both DM&E yard switching and road freights across the scenic granger line that contains numerous large grain elevators, along with several historic and former C&NW depots. The DM&Es locomotives include models: GP38-2, GP40, SD40-2 and SD40-3. We also take a brief look at connecting CP and UP trains plus some steam action on the Black Hills Central. Each Plets Express DVD comes with a map and additional information to make it easy and enjoyable to follow along with the program.
