DAM Quick Royal MDS 5500, Made in Germany (1993/94), With Box

Description: DAM Quick 5500 - UNIQUE & RARE!!! This reel was used sparingly and then displayed indoors in our cabin. How much use? It never saw more than 3-5 uses (if you want to call it hours I’d say 12 total) and it was just placed above the fireplace on my fathers rod rack. I will say the times he used it…the reel never laid on rocks and or never got dropped. The reel is in “great” condition with minor signs of use; the line housing has a black weight with some age/wear but the body doesn’t have the typical scratches or damage you normally see. The reel is over 30 years old but is a good looking reel (you can clean it/restore it) and it will be like new. Spool: The spool has very little wear or runoff on weight data markings…but the spool line clip came off. There wasn’t a situation of much force applied, yet it simply came off. Note: That does NOT affect the use. To mitigate any issues my dad placed a rubber band on the line at the spool to hold the line in place for display purposes. If my memory serves me right…that was the last time he used this reel and he never let anyone else use his stuff to begin with. He’s an old German and I guess he didn’t want any further or “other” issues etc. Supposedly the best real Quick ever made so go figure. The box…. Mint shape but has a liner from a different reel I believe… and has no paperwork aside from a reprint of some info dad collected on MDS series reels. Reel spin: What I know is the reel spins freely just I have not used it personally. It’s been recently lubed to ensure it’s working as it did some 30 years ago. I’ll say it spins better than brand new reels in my opinion. Most new reels even quicks are now made in China (not this one). Attention collectors: I “would” call it collector grade. I mean, yes the reel looks darn near mint or very good at a bare minimum. Usage: I’d buy this reel to use it. If I actually had time to fish I’d keep it for myself. DAM Quick Royal History: At the time, the reel was the best reel the fine German Craftsman in Germany could make. From what I understand it still sets standards today. Warranty: The details on the warranty dad said were “lebenslang” meaning “Indestructible lifetime” hence Quick offered a lifetime guarantee against material or manufacturing defects. There is no “Rollenpass” document in this listing. 5500 model details: The 5500 model is the largest of the Royal series and is perfect for large muskies and also perfect for spin fishing large catfish.
