Description: Dead, Man, Dead by David Alexander Featuring "a calypso background and 'cold-blooded murder' among New York’s Caribbean island émigrés." Cover art by Robert Maguire (if you like Robert 'Bob' McGinnis, Ron Lesser and such pinup pulp artists, you'll like Maguire's art, and this is one of his best covers as used in Illustration magazine's cover when featuring an issue on Maguire). Maguire is "one of the giants of 20th-century paperback illustration, especially known for his images of comely femmes fatales. For Dead, Man, Dead he delivered a redheaded lovely in a blue dress, looking as if she’s being backed into a corner by dread--perhaps related to the pin-punctured lookalike voodoo doll clutched in her right hand." David Alexander (1907-1973) was an American newspaperman, horse-racing journalist and prolific novelist with an idiosycratic style. He was born and educated in Kentucky and at Columbia University. He ran tours in France and Belgium and married Alice Le Mere in Europe in 1930 before returning to a journalism career in the US. He wrote seven novels about a Broadway editor called Bart Hardin. Alexander served in the US Army during World War II. He was a freelance writer from 1945 to his death. Shipping to continental USA only. Photos constitute part of description. All sales final.
