See Below** A PORTFOLIO OF COLLECTOR'S PRINTS A SPECIALLY COMMISSIONED SERIES by DAVID STONE MARTIN of his "INTERPRETATIONS OF JAZZ" ESPECIALLY CREATED by WESTINGHOUSE c.1960 David Stone Martin is most widely known as the illustrator of some of the most iconic records covers in history. Original copies of the albums sell for many hundreds of dollars, as much for the artwork as for the music. He was greatly influenced by the line art of Ben Shahn and by 1950, Martin had produced more than 100 covers for Mercury, Asch, Disc and Dial record albums. Many assignments came from his longtime friend, record producer Norman Granz (Norgran, Verve etc.) In all he created illustrations for more than 400 record albums. Many of these were simply line art combined with a single color. His favorite tool was a crow quill pen which enabled him to do delicate line work. CBS-TV art director William Golden gave Martin many print ad assignments during the 1950s, and Martin soon expanded into illustration for Seventeen , The Saturday Evening Post and other slick magazines of the 1950s and 1960s. His work is represented in the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art , the Art Institute of Chicago and the Smithsonian Institution. Finding originals of his albums is hard enough. Finding originals of his artwork is even harder, but almost never is his large, frameable art found, anywhere, in any condition, at any price! Most portfolios found today have articles the size of notebook paper. THIS EXTRA LARGE portfolio features 4 prints, 2 on tan paper, 2 on light blue (shown above, although they are a bit bluer than shown), and each one measures 16"x14.5". It is housed in an even larger portfolio jacket, shown below. I was only able to get 4 copies of this. One I am keeping, the other three I am offering to the true jazz collector. Each portfolio has 4 prints, all clean and bright, and I am offering this set at roughly $75 per print... Each jacket is untorn and clean showing a very small amount of shelfwear incurred before I got them. I have had them protected ever since I got them.
