Description: The only copy you'll even need. Incredibly clean first pressing of the debut album from the Dead Kennedys fresh fruit for rotting vegetables. Originally first released in the UK this was the first issue of this record, it was released by Cherry Red Records in 1980. Here are some of the details, I plucked them from discogs. My response is in all caps, so please excuse the "yelling!" From discogs: 1st pressing shows the original band photo on the back cover. Later pressings show the band photo again, but with the heads cut off or just the note "Stay tuned for further details" instead. THIS COPY DOES HAVE THE HEADS ON THE BAND, STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER DETAILS. Some copies came with a b&w foldout poster and/or a Cherry Red Records 'catalogue' printed inner sleeve. THIS COPY HAS BOTH THE POSTER AND THE CHERRY RED RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE. THE POSTER IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SEEMS LIKE IT'S ONLY BEEN UNFOLDED A COUPLE OF TIMES. NO WEAR OR PIN HOLES. 2nd pressing still has band heads showing on back cover, but 'Kill The Poor' also listed under 'Also Available', and run-out groove etching reads 'Do you deserve to live' instead of 'Well who are the brain police ???' KILL THE POOR IS NOT LISTED UNDER ALSO AVAILABLE, AND DO YOU DESERVE TO LIVE IS IN THE MATRIXES Some first pressings have matrix inscription "Do you deserve to live??" and no response to "Is life as boring as you are??". THIS COPY HAS NO "MAYBE" RESPONSE Here is the matrix info / details: Matrix / Runout (Side A, hand-etched runout): BRED-10-A MAX IS LIFE AS BORING AS YOU ARE?? LYN 8664-1UT Matrix / Runout (Side B, hand-etched runout): BRED-10-B MAX DO YOU DESERVE TO LIVE?? LYN 8665-1UT Front cover photo reproduced courtesy of the San Francisco Examiner P & C 1980 Cherry Red Records Manufactured in England 1980 Virgin Music (Publishers) Ltd. except B1 Sound Diagrams and B7 Carlin Music Corp. See the photo for all the details, the record picture it is the exact one you will receive, no stock photos here! The record is in excellent condition extremely clean, very beautiful. Again it is a very first pressing of this record with the becoming rare and rarer poster and the original cherry red records inner sleeve. Of course besides the poster the best thing about this release is that the band photo on the back cover has the heads still attached. If you are a person who looks for this record regularly that's probably the first thing that you look for! Again, see the photos zoom in for the details and please message me if you have any questions at all, I'm happy to help. Shipping is USA only and this will be shipped for USPS ground advantage. USPS media mail is also available, just choose it during checkout. Please keep in mind when choosing to use media mail that it will not be insured. Besides based on the total weight, the actual cost of shipping is also based on distance from me here in NY and is automatically calculated when you are logged into your eBay account. The postage rate/amount is set by USPS, UPS, FedEx etc. I take very good care in shipping the few items I sell safely and quickly, and I take pride in providing excellent service, as I'm mainly a buyer here who buys random stuff (sometimes too) impulsively on eBay and I know what it's like to have a seller that doesn't pack something well, or doesn't communicate, or waits a week or more to ship something you've purchased. So I try to give the excellent communication and service that I like to receive as a buyer. And while this isn't a job for me, and I don't sell a ton of items, I've has this eBay account since February 2000 and I do take it very seriously and will make sure your item has lots of photos, is described very truthfully and accurately, is packed well, and shipped fast and safely. I'm happy to add signature confirmation, or any other service (at your cost, in most cases) if you have any problems with package delivery at your home or apartment. Please contact me ahead of time when possible, I'll get a cost for it and I'll be happy to set that up for you. Lastly, I'm pretty open to offers, so if it's an option, send one! Or, put it on your watched items list and I'll send you an offer. _______ Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk bands during its initial eight-year run. Initially consisting of lead guitarist East Bay Ray, bassist Klaus Flouride, lead vocalist Jello Biafra, drummer Ted and rhythm guitarist 6025, 6025 left in 1979, and Ted left the following year after the band recorded their acclaimed first album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables (1980). The band's longest-serving drummer was D. H. Peligro, who replaced Ted in 1981 and remained until his death in 2022. Dead Kennedys recorded the EP In God We Trust Inc. (1981), followed by three more studio albums, Plastic Surgery Disasters (1982), Frankenchrist (1985), and Bedtime for Democracy (1986), the latter of which was recorded and released shortly after announcing their breakup in January 1986. Most of the band's recordings were released on Alternative Tentacles, an independent record label founded by Biafra and East Bay Ray. Following Dead Kennedys' dissolution, Biafra continued to run Alternative Tentacles, and went on to collaborate and record with other artists, including D.O.A., NoMeansNo and his own bands Lard and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, as well as releasing several spoken word performances. In 2000 (upheld on appeal in 2003), Biafra lost an acrimonious legal case initiated by his former Dead Kennedys bandmates over songwriting credits and unpaid royalties. In 2001, the band reformed without Biafra; various singers have since been recruited for vocal duties. Although Dead Kennedys have continued to perform over the years, they have not released any more studio albums since Bedtime for Democracy. Dead Kennedys' lyrics were usually political in nature, satirizing political figures and authority in general, as well as popular culture and even the punk movement itself. During their initial incarnation between 1978 and 1986, they attracted considerable controversy for their provocative lyrics and artwork. Several stores refused to stock their recordings, provoking debate about censorship in rock music; in the mid-1980s, vocalist and primary lyricist Jello Biafra became an active campaigner against the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). This culminated in an obscenity trial between 1985 and 1986, which resulted in a hung jury and also hastened the band's demise. Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables is the debut studio album by the American punk rock band Dead Kennedys. It was first released on September 2, 1980, through Cherry Red Records in the United Kingdom, and I.R.S. Records in the United States. It was later issued by Jello Biafra's own Alternative Tentacles label in the United States. It is the only Dead Kennedys studio album to feature drummer Bruce Slesinger and (on one track) guitarist Carlo Cadona. The photo on the front cover, showing several police cars on fire, was taken during the White Night riots of May 21, 1979, that resulted from the light sentence given to former San Francisco City Supervisor Dan White for the murder of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. When Biafra ran for mayor, one of his policies had been for a statue to be erected to Dan White, and for eggs, tomatoes and stones to be available nearby for pelting it. In addition, the band's version of "I Fought the Law" has rewritten lyrics making reference to the incident. The original back cover featured a found photograph of an old lounge band called Sounds of Sunshine, with Dead Kennedys' logo pasted onto the drum kit and skulls and crossbones spliced onto their instruments. The original photograph, as found by Flouride at a garage sale, had no identifying remarks on it whatsoever, and was used because the band thought it was "hilarious". Somehow, Warner Wilder, the former vocalist of the defunct lounge band, learned of the photo and threatened to sue Dead Kennedys. The back cover was reprinted with the heads of the band members cut off, but this solution was found to be unsatisfactory to Sounds of Sunshine, forcing an entirely different photo of four old people in a living room (with the Alternative Tentacles bat mascot pasted over a picture frame).
