Division of Public Information 16" Vinyl Record of US Marine Band 1946 Sousa

Description: 16-inch Division of Public Information vinyl record with recordings from 1946. This seems to be a post-World War II broadcast with John Phillip Sousa Marine Band march songs. The label is clear on one side but really washed-out n the other making it impossible to read. Turntables to accommodate them were not publicly available though Newcomb built a transcription player for commercial use. Many were made to promote government programs or provide military information or recruitment. In addition to military use, these huge discs were widely used for radio station commercials. Shows wear and scratches but none appear deep enough to prevent play. There is a chip on the edge but does not intrude on the grooves. The label on one side has worn and faded away.
