His father was in the RAF and some of his childhood was spent in Africa, Singapore, Germany and Malaysia which ignited his love of travel. He trained and worked as an illustrator but working in isolation did not suit his personality, so he became involved in art and design education, spending two years as a lecturer at Yarmouk University in Jordan followed by other educational posts in the UK.He is currently the artist in residence for the National Trust at Nymans Gardens where he has been since 2012.John continues to travel abroad with his family enjoying the different cultures, physical geography and natural history of the planet which has inspired him to write.
