Description: DETAILS: Original vintage photograph of Don Post Studio's. Circa 1969. It was taken by a freelance photographer for Warren Publishing and appeared as a special feature in Famous Monsters Of Filmland Magazine #54, March 1969. We believe that this particular photograph along with the others in our ebay store were the actual photos used by Warren. It was discovered along with a number of other Warren Publishing art / publishing materials which we will be posting in the next several weeks. Measures approx. 8" x 10" inches. The following is a synopsis of the information provided about the photographs in the Famous Monster #54: Don Post originally had a small prototype of King Kong created by Marcel Delgado, as his model. Post then worked to create a bigger one to scale and then from that model came the huge Kong. Aside from Post also featured in photos were are Verne Langdon, John Chambers and Marcel Delgado, the original designer of the first King Kong in 1933 PROVENANCE: From the estate of comic book artist Al Kilgore (1927-1983). Kilgore was a noted comic book artist, animator, writer and film maker. He worked for Dell Publishing starting in the late 1940's and was responsible for the publishers magazine art department. While at Dell he acquired a large number of original photographs of celebrities and Hollywood films. Starting in the early 1960's he was a regular contributor to Dell's Four Color comic book series. From 1962-67 he was the artist on the Bullwinkle comic strip for the Bell-McClure Syndicate. He also drew regularly for Gold Key, Whitman, and Charlton comics throughout the 1950's-1970's. In addition to his comic illustration work, Kilgore also contributed art and stories to monster and science fiction magazines. In 1976 he won the National Cartoonist Society award for excellence.
