Description: Quartz Keokuk Geodes in Matrix overall dimensions: 5 in X 3-1/2 in X 1-3/4 in weight: 13.4 oz Here is an aesthetic plate of Keokuk geodes sections in their matrix, a Warsaw Formation mud stone shale. The hollow geodes are lined with doubly terminated quartz crystals. The largest one at 2-1/4" across, has some orange goethite staining, probably from decomposed pyrite, that I did not clean off. There are even 3 small unopened geodes held in the matrix as well. An educational and beautiful specimen, it was found in Hancock County, Illinois.
