Stored in a dark, temperature-controlled room as a collectible. No nicks, tears, or bends. A beautiful, rare First Edition of master photographer Duane Michals SLEEP AND DREAMS. I purchased it new at a specialty photography bookstore in New York City in the 1980s. I own several of Duane Michals photographs and books. I purchased this book as a collectible. Other than taking photographs of key descriptive pages, the book has not been opened or read. This book is new and has been stored in a dark, temperature-controlled room as a collectible. No nicks, tears, or bends. As a collector of photography, I think that Duane Michals (1932 - present) is one of the most important fine art photographers of the second half of the 20th century. He is given credit for two significant developments in 20th century photography: [1] telling stories through a series of related photographs (sequences), and [2] handwriting text near his photographic images, giving more meaning to the photographic image. Other artists have since followed his lead to also create a sequence of photographs to tell a story, and to handwrite on their photographs as part of the artistic statement. But Duane Michals is given credit for being the first. This is one of Duane Michals' first published books, and therefore is an important part of the development of his career and the history of photography.
