Description: Early 20th century Impressionist Californian Seascape by Francis Stillwell Dixon 1879-1967, listed New York/California artist, oil on canvas board, 8" by 9 7/8", signed lower right, reproduction carved 23K water gilded frame, 11 1/2" by 13 1/2". Artist studied Art Students League of New York with Frank Vincent Dumond and Robert Henri, and with Charles W. Hawthorne in Cape Cod. He traveled to California in 1915, living in Los Angeles, also staying in Carmel and Pt. Lobos, returning to New York City in 1917. He also traveled to Bermuda, Great Britain, and continental Europe in the 1920's. He exhibited widely along the East Coast and was a member of Allied Artists of America, Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and Salmagundi Club. Condition excellent for age, frame with some scattered gilt losses with touch-up.
