Description: George F. Shelley completed Early History of American Fork: with Some History of a Later Day in 1942. This was updated in 1945 with the addition of the chapter; "American Fork's Present and Future Outlook," adding two more pages to the book, which was published that same year by American Fork City. This final chapter detailed the local residential building boom, the greatest in the history of the community. This dramatic increase in population came with the construction of Columbia Steel Company (later Geneva Steel/United States Steel) and the influx of many Eastern residents assigned to key positions at Utah Valley's major defense plant. Since this valuable historical publication has been out-of-print for more than 45-years, we are please to announce this Second Printing, giving generations of new readers an opportunity to become acquainted with the pioneers and early settlers of the community. This book contains the complete, original Shelley manuscript, just as he wrote it. Mr Shelley was a devoted historian, a living link between the pioneers he wrote about and the contemporary history in which he was a participant. The integrity of the original manuscript has been faithfully retained. Our only additions are this preface, an expanded "Contents," and "Index" section, a new dedication page and an illustrated book jacket featuring a brief biography and photograph of Mr. Shelley.
