Description: The Deutsches Rotes Kreuz was a bit of an interesting organization within the DDR. Indeed, it wasn't exclusively an East German organization - it existed simultaneously in the West as well, and was even known to participate in cross-border cooperation in some instances. In addition, unlike most roles, one could participate in the DRK regardless of one's relationship with the Party. The DRK aided with both large scale (natural disasters, mine collapses, civil defense) and small scale (assisted living facilities, blood drives, ambulance services, etc) activities, and ultimately were folded into the West German DRK in 1991. As the DRK was a civilian organization, it got its uniforms from civilian, rather than government/military channels. As such, instead of some four-digit factory code, the tag shows that it was made at VEB Bekleidungswerk Zwickau (State-Owned Enterprise Garment Factory in the city of Zwickau). Size M94. M stands for "medium;" I'm unsure what this translates to in women's sizes, but I can measure if you need. 94 equals out to about a 38" chest. -------- I am a longtime collector of Cold War military equipment. However, as the need to pay for grad school looms on the horizon, I am now selling off a good portion of my collection. Follow me to see my latest listings, and grab some fascinating history (and other stuff) at great prices! I am a collector more than a salesman, and so I'm quite happy to do whatever I can to ensure that you get what you're looking for. I'm always happy to combine shipping! Unfortunately eBay makes that process difficult sometimes, but if you can't request an invoice, go ahead and buy what you want and I will refund the difference!
