Smooth silvery-gray branches are picturesque in the winter landscape. Also called the Love Tree. Native to North America, the Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)is cold hardy to zones 4 to 9. ********** Germinator Instruction********** The seeds have to be scarified and cold stratified to break their winter dormancy. 1. To scarify the seeds, nick or sand the seed coat with sandpaper. 2. Soak the seeds in water for several hours. 3. Put some moist sand in a ziplock bag. 4. Put the seeds in the sand and seal the bag. 5 Put the ziplock bag in the refrigerator for 3 months. 6. Sow the seeds in containers with a mixture of potting soil and sand or vermiculite. The containers should have drainage holes in the bottom. 7. Water the seeds and keep the soil moist but not wet. 8. When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted outdoors.
