Description: Very Rare 9 x 7 inch true rookie photo of Football Hall of Fame great Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch. In his first pro season playing for the Chicago Rockets. Their first round pick played in the All-American Football Conference that challenged the NFL from 46 to 49. He went on to star with the Los Angeles Rams and made the NFL’s Hall of Fame in 1968. Side note while playing college ball at the University of Michigan he became their first athlete to letter in four sports. These vintage type 1 photos came from the collection of Len Hollreiser. In the 50s, 60s and 70s Hollreiser used them to help create the art for his daily comic feature This Day in Sports, a daily series of photorealistic historical athlete portraits. More than likely there is a comic done by Hollreiser out there with this famous sports celebrity in it.
