Description: Back in the mid-1940's EMD started their own Styling Department. There were a number of key individuals who painted full scale paintings, namely Ben Dedek, Ed Morreau and Harry Bockewicz, but there were a number of people who served in support roles. The support people were also very talented in their own right and were often assigned getting the paintings into full scale engineering drawings so that the locomotives could be properly painted by the Paint Department. One such person was Barbara Luse. Over her career, she actually only created one full scale locomotive painting - Western Railway of Alabama - but was responsible for much of the day-to-day work within the Styling Department. I actually own the original painting and included an image of it for reference only. It is not included in this listing. This painting is of the The Detroit Terminal Railroad side logo. This painting was assigned a part number and eventually turned into a working EMD drawing. Barbara painted this sometime in the 1940's and I'm fairly confident that this was slightly tilted and applied to their NW2 switcher locomotives delivered in 1947. This original painting is on 15" x 10" authentic period Hi Art Illustration board and thoughtfully wrapped in a protective plastic. It looks as good as the day it was painted 75+ years ago. I've owned this painting since the early 1990's having purchased it from an EMD retiree who actually worked in the Styling Department. I took these to the Antiques Roadshow in 2009. They loved them with Rudy Franchi (1939 - 2024) performing the appraisal. The AR filmed the appraisal but did not air it because I had been filmed previously in 2008 for some Bern Hill artwork. See my other listings for other original EMD created logo paintings. I'm only going to list a handful of these for now but I have around 30 of these in my private collection. Will ship USPS fully insured - most of the shipping cost is the insurance.
