Description: Empire Francais Empereur Napoleon III 5 Franc Coin 1868 BB Minted in Strassburg This coin has been in my family for 100, plus years. It is a 5 Franc, French coin commemorating the reign of Napoleon III, Empereur/President of France from 1848-1852. He was the only President of France's Second Republic and as Napoleon III, the Emperor of the Second French Empire. The nephew of Napoleon I lived from 1808 until his death in 1873.. The coin is in exceptional condition. I am not one to polish coins as I prefer the natural beauty of the aging process rather than the highly polished sheen that comes with polishing. I have no doubt, if you prefer to polish this coin, that it would look magnificent. There is little in the way of marking or scratching visible on the coin's surface. It is rather quite pristine for its vintage. The front captures the image of the Empereur Napoleon III and the back is quite detailed as you can see in the photo. It was minted in Strassburg and is clearly dated 1868.The coin's edge is so special, with finely detailed raised lettering which reads "DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE" and is accompanied and surrounded on both sides by elevated stars. For the coin collector in your life, this would be a special gift. For your own collection, it is quite the find.
