While Orville Les Pauls were being introduced in Japan, many Epiphone Les Pauls were being produced in Korea during the same period. This particular model of Epiphone Les Paul with a smaller font 7-digit serial number was produced in Japan. (From the following year, 1995, the serial numbers changed to FC+7 digits.) To reduce costs, some budget Les Paul models had to have a bolt-on neck design. However, this model is structurally different, with a bolt joint hidden behind the pickups that is not visible from the exterior. The clever construction, indistinguishable from a set neck at first glance, reveals the pride of Japanese craftsmen at that time, showcasing an interesting specification in Japan's guitar manufacturing history. Compared to current Chinese-made models, it may not have the same flashy appearance, but the materials and craftsmanship are superior. The thick maple top contributes to a solid sound with good note separation, giving a vintage feel. I have been impressed by the cost-performance of Epiphone Les Pauls from the 90s and have owned many, but this Made in Japan model stands out for its history and charming sound. Condition:- Pickup guard missing, various scratches and marks throughout.- Pickups have been replaced with Zematis.- No operational issues with the electrical system during sound testing. Regarding other parts replacements, it is unknown. As it is an old guitar, I recommend having it serviced by a music store after purchase.
