CURRENCYNOTES OF ETHIOPIA1997 – 2019The FederalDemocratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) introduced New Currency Notes in 1997[1989 Ethiopian Calendar / EC]. The First Issue has five denominations: 1 Birr;5 Birr; 10 Birr; 50 Birr and 100 Birr.A total of 12Issues were released during 1997 to 2019 [1989 to 2011 EC] of which completeSets of Birr 1 to Birr 100 were issued five times: (i) 1997 [1989 EC]; (ii)2000 [1992 EC]; (iii) 2003 [1995 EC]; (iv) 2006 [1998 EC]; and (v) 2008 [2000EC].Although theissuance of 1 Birr was stopped in 2011 [2003 EC], it has been in USE till 2019[2011 EC]. Therefore, a one time New Set with Denominations of 5 Birr, 10 Birr,50 Birr and 100 Birr was released in 2015 [2007 EC].New Seriesof 50 Birr and 100 Birr were Issued in: (i) 2004 [1997 EC]; (ii) 2011 [2003EC]; (iii) 2012 [2004 EC] and (iv) 2019 [2011 EC].Singleissues of 5 Birr and 10 Birr were released in: (i) 2013 [2005 EC]; and (ii)2017 [2009 EC] respectively.Anotherimportant factor to Note is that during all these years the Design of the Noteswas the same for the respective Denominations. Also surprisingly the Notes weresigned by only three Governors: (a) First Issue 1997 [1989 EC]; (b) From 2000 to2017 [1992 to 2009 EC] and (c) 2019 [2011 EC].******************
