Description: Extremely Rare Signed Dorthy Kindell Towel Holder This was very Risqué for circa 1940-50’s This is a “pin up girl” type of art or “Nudies Cuties” they call it made from the artist Dorthy Kindell in the 40s threw the 50’s This is a extremely rare , I will tell why it’s rare , 1st off it is signed by Dorthy Kindell as all her work is signed ….. This type (the towel holder) piece aka (The Naked Hawaiian Girl) is extremely rare , bc they broke when people bought and used them for towel holders and hung them on the wall as they were thought to be intended for . They weren’t considered art yet , only the people that saw the true artistic value kept them safe ….very few of these lasted …. Dorthy Kindell was the 1st to do this kind of risqué art and only for a short time in California as she died very young at 52 yrs: 1909-1961 She had a shop that she opened and made her pottery out of , fired & glazed it herself and then sold out of for a short time in California and there is only handful of these Towel holders left … I’m sure of that bc I am an avid collector of Kindell ,This only the 2nd one I had chance to purchase in the last 10 years Her pottery is very very collectible and sought after, and has gone up in value tremendously over the years and will continue do so as her pottery has became extremely rare and very popular , and hard to find yet buy ….
