On August 29, on the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine, Ukrposhta held a special redemption of the "Minute of Silence" postage stamp. The event took place near the memorial to those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv. The space with the flags, on which the names of the fallen heroes are indicated, became a symbol of memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine. It was recreated by the Donetsk artist Serhiy Maidukov in the "Minute of Silence" postal issue. The first flags appeared in June 2022, when relatives of the soldiers of the "Azov" regiment installed 55 flags on which were written the names of the heroes who defended Mariupol. These flags became a symbol of memory, pain and pride for those who gave their lives for the Motherland. Today, on the central square of Kyiv, you can see thousands of flags, which are installed both with Ukrainian colors and with the flags of foreign countries. They are a constant reminder of the huge price that Ukraine pays for its freedom and independence. ***A nationwide minute of silence in memory of Ukrainians, who died because of russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on 16 March 2022. "Every morning at 9 a.m., throughout our country, we will commemorate Ukrainians who sacrificed their lives. All those who fought. All military and all civilians. Adults and children... All of them!.. Eternal memory to everyone who died for Ukraine!" said the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The postal issue "Minute of Silence," which Ukrposhta presents on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine, reproduces the works of Donetsk artist Sergiy Maidukov "Marsove Pole (Field of Mars). Lviv" (2023) and "Memorial on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. Kyiv" (2024). Since the beginning of the large-scale war, blue and yellow flags have been flying in the cemeteries of all Ukrainian cities and villages, on the graves of fallen heroes, reminding us, who are still alive, about the price of every moment lived in the unconquered country at war. The emotional issue is complemented by a poem "And horror, and blood, and death, and despair" written by the prominent Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko back in 2014. The poem is translated by Jaroslava Francesca Barbieri (June 30, 2024).Specification: Artist — Serhii MaidukovIsuue date (year) — 29.08.2024The number of stamps in the sheet — 5+1Face value of each postage stamp — U+5 UAH I will send your order by Ukrposhta within 1-2 business days from the date of purchase.
