Black - ( Early 1911 - 1936) The first notation of black glassware in Fenton's inventory records shows up in 1911. Although production of pieces in black increased during the early 1920s, it appears as if most items, except bases for bowls and vases, were produced sparingly in this color until about 1933. The listing of 1930s black opaque glass pieces seems almost limitless. There are over 170 pieces listed in Fenton's inventory records from this time period. Some of these black pieces have lids or stoppers that were accented with a color such as jade green, lilac, or moonstone. In 1994 Fenton made black pieces with the Autumn Leaves decoration. Production of black glass continued into the 2000's. Most of these later pieces were hand painted and stamped with the oval Fenton backstamp. All of the newer items made were changed in some manner and can be easily distinguished from the earlier Fenton black glass pieces.
