Derived from the Latin word “fatum,” or fate, the song form represents the combination of original, fast Portuguese tempos with a slower African rhythm and mood, creating the perfect backdrop to the melancholy and dramatic woes of unrequited love. It is a genre associated with the Coimbra and Lisbon regions of Portugal, and is usually performed in restaurants or pubs. Fernanda Maria began singing fado when she was 13, and later performed in theatrical productions and three of Lisbon’s most well-known fado restaurants. Fado speaks of love and longing but can also have historical and cultural context and is generally thought to be characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor, and infused with a sentiment of resignation, fatefulness, and melancholia. The cover shows just minor storage record-shaped impression to unlaminated rear, but is otherwise in EX condition. The record is visually VG+ with just a few light/very light and hairline surface marks to each side only. VINYL GRADING NEW: note that still sealed items will be presumed to be in 'new' condition, but are obviously sold as seen. Any visible signs of wear/storage etc. beneath the shrinkwrap will be mentioned. MINT: note please note that I will NEVER use the 'MINT' grade, as I think you are asking for trouble! The highest grade for an item that is not new will use will be NM (Near Mint). NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in very close to 'as new' condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in almost perfect condition. EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played a number of times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and maybe some occasional light scratches. If there is any surface noise it will be occasional, light and unobtrusive. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD (G): The record has obviously been played a lot and while it still plays through OK, it will have a lot of surface marks and/or light scratches (maybe also the occasional 'feelable' scratch) and most likely there there will be regular and noticeable surface noise. The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine and/or seam splits, discoloration, etc. TERMS & CONDITIONS *Important* - the ONLY countries I will send to by uninsured mail are as follows: - UK.
