Here we are offering a Cuban silk-screen poster designed for CRONICA DE LA VICTORIA (Chronicle of Victory), a 1976 Cold War-era documentary about then-Cuban President Fidel Castro (1926-2016). The poster shows Castro making his first major speech after the Cuban revolution in January 1959, when a dove landed on his right shoulder while he was speaking.This poster was designed by one of Cuba's graphic art masters, Antonio Pérez, who is known as Ñiko. A copy of this poster was displayed in an extensive 2019 exhibition of Cuban poster art at the prestigious Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Decorative Arts Museum) in Paris. The 20 by 30 inch poster (a standard size, so easy and inexpensive to frame) was silk-screened in the Cuban Film Institute's workshop in Havana in the past decade, some years after the poster was first released. A word about Cuban silk-screens: Once the 1st editions are sold, the Cuban Film Institute will sometimes (not always) make a relatively small number of official 2nd editions in the same silk-screen workshop, using the same handmade, one-color-at-a-time techniques.
