Description: Gorgeous antique German KPM style hand-painted porcelain plaque presented in a beautiful contemporary mahogany and gilt gesso frame! Signed "Sontag" at lower right (Listed Artist: Hermann Sontag 1873-1944) and depicts a lovely, blue-eyed, fair maiden in chains, "L' Esclave" or "Slave" after the original painting by Zoe-Laure Chatillon. Dates from the late 19thC to very early 20thC with exquisite, finely done details and gilt accents throughout. Rectangular porcelain plaque measures 6 3/8" by 4 3/8" with stunning deep set contemporary mahogany and gilt frame measuring 12 1/4" by 10" and with a depth of about 2 1/4". Lovely royal blue velvet accent fillet that really makes the porcelain plaque stand out. Porcelain plaque in pristine condition (see pics) with no chips, scratches or cracks. Displays beautifully with colors that are still vivid and vibrant. Possible very light surface wear, but virtually flawless. Any haziness you might see in the pictures is merely a reflection of light. Mahogany frame in near excellent condition with some light age-related (see pics) wear. Overall, this piece is in near excellent condition and has been well cared for over the past 125+years. Would make a fine quality addition to any porcelain plaque collection.
