First edition of "Travels in Upper and Lower Egypt 1799", an English translation of a travelogue of Egypt by Charles-Nicolas-Sigisbert Sonnini de Manoncourt, a French naturalist born in 1751. This is a masterpiece of an 18th century travelogue that details the fish, plants, local scenery, ancient ruins, excavated antique art, and ruins of unexplored lands from Europe to the Middle East through a total of 40 copperplate prints (including 3 frontispieces) and abundant text. Period binding with full leather binding, gold leaf printing on the spine, and marbled paper on the endpapers. There are scratches on the exterior due to age, but the inside pages are in excellent condition with no missing or missing pages. Outer dimensions 142*218mm. In English.
