Description: This is for an original Flash Gordon baseball glove made by OK Manufacturing Co. in Ada Ohio. The OK stands for Ohio Kentucky and the company was started by William Sonnett. In the late 1940’s the company would switch names from OK MFG Co to Sonnett. The company moved to Ada Ohio in 1938 and would begin manufacturing gloves for the first time during that time period. I believe this to be a double tunnel glove but rather than use a piece of leather for the second tunnel they just ran leather strips between the grommets. Almost all “Flash” Gordon gloves say Joe “Flash” Gordon, who played for the Yankees from 1938 to 1943, and after a stint in the Army he returned to the Yanks for 1946 before finishing his career with the Cleveland Indians from 1947 to 1950. I was told many years ago that these gloves were actually a special promotional item for the Flash Gordon movie serials and NOT a Joe “Flash” Gordon model. Really tough to tell and without information from the late 30’s, its tough to tell exactly what the gloves were made for. This one is a soft as a babies butt and displays beautifully. There are a couple of neat small stampings on the glove which shows the original owners name and address, but they actual look like they are a part of the glove. A great example of a late 1930’s glove, be it for the science fiction hero Flash Gordon or Joe “Flash” Gordon of the Yankees. Check out the scans and email with any questions.
