Description: France 1966 SG1728 FDC (Reims) History of France-Clovis-First King of the Franks The stamp features Clovis being anointed on becoming a Christian The FDC shows the breaking of the Vase de Soissons-see below taken from the Guardian-"The Vase of Soissons was a large, beautiful vase that the army of Clovis sacked from a church in Reims [AD 486]. Clovis had decided to return it to the Bishop of Reims, but in a dispute over sharing the sacked goods an envious soldier destroyed it by crushing it with his axe. Clovis harboured his grudge until he marshaled the army a year later. While inspecting his troops he threw the soldiers axe onto the floor. When the soldier bent to pick it up Clovis crushed his head saying "Thus didst thou to the vase at Soissons." I am a collector selling a France and Colonies collection including Stamps/Postcards/FDC's and Philatelic Documents.
