Description: The item for sale is a color pastel drawing of a coastal landscape created around the middle of the twentieth century by the American artist Frederick Robbins Childs. The artist studied art in France at the studio of Andre Lhote, a cubist painter. It is not hard to see the influence of Lhote in the drawing with its dark, thick angular lines and stacked perspective. The colors are patchier and more diffuse than typically seen in Childs' work. The pastel is not signed. It is from an auction of the artist's estate conducted by Alderfer Auctions, Hatfield, PA during July 2023. The pastel was recently framed. Prior to this, it has probably been in storage since its creation. The condition is essentially pristine. The frame is used and shows some minor wear and abrasions to the finish. The mat window size is 22 1/2" x 16". The framed size is 20" x 26".
