Description: French Creek, also known as the Venango River, is a tributary of the Allegheny River in northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York. The stream has sometimes been called a river and sometimes a creek. In the 18th century the stream was an important link between the Great Lakes and the Ohio River. The French built Fort Presque Isla and Fort le Boeuf to control the portage from the stream’s headwaters to Lake Erie. It begins near French Creek, New York, and flows about 117 miles to the Allegheny River at Franklin Pennsylvania. On its way it passes through Cambridge Springs. This is an uncredited, small, 3 ¼ x 5 5/8, UDB with a near mint condition with minor wear on the upper left edge but immaculate overall. The image of the quiet creek with a boat on the water and one on the shore, is clean and clear as is the reverse. A nice little card.
