Description: Francois Gerome was known more for his Paris street scenes but apparently also did portraits as we can see from this street clown. Francois Gerome was a French painter born in Paris in 1895. He is most well-known for his paintings of women depicted at picturesque spots throughout Paris, including the Place de la Concorde and in front of the Opera. This oil on canvas was done sometime between 1920 - 1950s. The frame looks to be about the same time period but has marks from Glendale NY. Painting itself is roughly 15 X 20. With frame it’s 26.5” X 22.5”. Purchased at an estate sale in the Midwest US. Definition one of a kind. Signature is clear and unmistakable compared to other pieces of his art work but has not been authenticated. Will ship UPS and have them box and pack thus the additional cost expected in shipping.
