Description: The Sony Alpha a7S Mirrorless Digital Camera features a full-frame 12.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to enable notable video and still image quality with an expansive dynamic range, low noise, and extended sensitivity to ISO 409600. At the sensor level, this full-frame sensor features a unique on-chip gapless lens design, which incorporates small lenses between neighboring pixels in order to increase light-gathering efficiency and promote greater image quality across the entirety of the sensor plane. The sensor and processor combination also avails a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including a top continuous shooting rate of 5 fps and a fast 25-point contrast-detection AF system with sensitivity to -4 EV. Firmware 1.0 and therefore no so-called star eater noise reduction on long exposures for astro-photography. The camera had the internal IR cut filter removed, and replaced with a piece of Double side AR COATED Quartz Heraeus Spectrosil® 2000 mineral glass, making the camera sensitive to UV, visible and IR—the full spectrum of light. The included removable filter restores the camera to reduce the sensitivity to visible light for normal photography. This was a third model of the first generation and has improved metal mount, it is the first that had silent shooting mode. Don't be mislead by the megapixel count, the 4240x2832 pixel sensor behind this full frame camera is exceptional. It all works perfectly, but camera has a bit of wear and paint loss. Tested with Sony AF lenses only, the lens software distance scale will not be perfect due to the conversion. Sample image 7-8-9 shows the camera in full spectrum mode without any filters, 10-11-12 shows the original filter in action (normal photos) and 13-14-15 show the IR830 in B&W mode - all pictures straight out of the camera using the Sony Zeiss 55/1.8 with default auto white balance and standard color (or B&W) mode. Try custom white balance for blue skies full spectrum, I'd also recommend the Kolari Vision IRChrome that produces the Kodak Aerochrome look and an H-Alpha Pass filter for astro. Forensic applications may require specialized lens that transmits ultra violet light better than glass based lenses (UV Nikkor 105/4). Lens pictured for size illustration purposes only, not included.
