Description: Furnivals Limited Cup & Saucer Denmark Blue 1905-1913 Smooth Rim Finely Fluted Exquisite Decorative CUP & SAUCER from FURNIVALS LIMITED, Pattern DENMARK BLUE on WHITE Bone China, COBALT BLUE w/Smooth Rims & Slight FINE FLUTING, from Hanley & Cobridge, Staffordshire, England, circa 1905-1913 DESCRIPTION: Both the cup & saucer are delicately fluted with smooth rims. This set was produced in a striking manner with the cobalt blue on the high white of the bone china. There is no trim on the rim of the cup & saucer or the cup's handle. The outside of the cup and the saucer are a striking cobalt blue. The inside of the cup has one spray of the design. The well of the saucer has a medallion on the high white of the bone china. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. DIMENSIONS: The demitasse cup has a diameter of 3 1/8" with a height of 2 5/8". The capacity of the cup is 6 ounces. The deep saucer has a diameter of 5 3/4" and a height of 15/16". HISTORY/MARKS: The history goes all the way back to 1843 with Thomas & Jacob Furnival in Miles Bank, Hanley, Staffordshire, England. By 1871, a second operation was opened in Elder Road, Cobridge, Staffordshire, England. "Limited" was used as part of the mark until January, 1913 when "Ltd." was adopted in the marks. After several iterations, the trademark was acquired by Enoch Wedgwood Ltd. in 1968. Geoffrey Golden’s Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks cites this as mark #1653 used in the 1905-1913 time period.
