After we had the insulation totally replaced, we had an electrician put in a plug outlet in the attic so we can just plug in the fan. We purchased this fan because the CFM was just right for the attic size. The fan is quiet and can only be heard when standing outside underneath the vent. Still not very loud. Our home is much cooler now and we haven’t used the AC much since install. The app is very easy to download and use. You can use preset settings or adjust them to your needs. We have it set on automatic and the fan will run most of the day and shut off by itself at night. Love the warranty. I used mine for intake air by reversing the fan inside it's housing so I could use it in my generator shed for forced air intake for keeping the gen. shed cooled. Very well built (can't speak to longevity as I just installed it) but while doing the work of reversing it for my needs I seen up close a very well constructed product. Yes I probably voided the warranty but with the quality of the build and simplicity of design I'm not worried about. Next morning I picked this up with customer service. Very easy, in and out. I climbed up in the attic with everything I needed. It really felt like it took me less than 5 min to install everything. I did have to climb back up as I didn't press the pair button to connect this fan to my tablet. Once paired via "bluetooth" I was able to see the temperature in the attic and humidity. There are two ways to use this fan. One is a timer based on hours (1,2,3,etc) and second is an automatic on and off based on temperature and humidity settings. This will take time to understand the temperature in the attic to set this up. Others have wondered if they can set this up based on specific times. But I think the temperature settings works great. However, you can always use a smart plug for specific times for on and off. I thought about this but the temperature setting will work just fine. When I was in the attic, I was able to get the fan to turn on high. I checked other vents I have in the attic and it was sucking in cooler air from the outside and taking out hot air to outside through a different vent. There are two speed settings. Low one seemed too low to be honest. But it did work well and it was very quiet. The higher setting has much more power and it worked great. Although the sound is louder on high speed setting, but from downstairs I did not hear the fan inside the house. It will take a few days to monitor temperature at different hours throughout the day and night to have a good set up. The gable vent had small mesh that was clogged so I bought hardware cloth that had 1/4" squares to replace fine mesh. I had the person cut out a board to go over the framing at the gable. Then I had him cut out a circle to postion the fan and prevent air from blowing back past the edges of the device. I turned on the fan when I got it in my house and programmed the app before putting it in the attic. It works great and I already see that my AC is running less. It is very quiet, even on high. So, this fan has all I want the ability to use my phone to control it, easy installation and quiet as well. I would recommend testing the unit BEFORE taking it up to the attic for installation as it didn't work first time being plugged in. After opening the control box there was 1 wire slipped out of a wire nut. Re-attached the wire but also put black electrical tape around all the wire nuts after re-tightening them as well.The installation was simple enough as kept the plug in cord intact and just used the outlet from the old fan. put in a GFI and all good from the manual testing. The rubber pads self cement to the mounting tabs and the screws provided were more then enough to get everything in place.The app was easy enough to download onto my Samsung S7 and was quite pleased to find that you can pair another device from phone to phone.The only thing I don't like is the fact that if you unplug or the electricity goes out it, you have to re connect your phone by going back into the attic and manually starting all over.But even on the low setting I could feel the heat in the house dropping and a lot of old stale air coming out of the attic so am well pleased with making this purchase. © Liory-51.
