Description: Gene Austin (1900 - 1972) was a popular composer, screen, radio & recording artist. His career spanned from the mid 1920's into the early 1970's. He was known as "the voice of the south land" and a pioneer In the "crooning" style of singing. A jazz artist at heart, he was equally at home singing country ballads, blues and spirituals. One of his most popular songs was "My Blue Heaven". This was recorded several times throughout his career and sold over five million copies worldwide. Gene Austin CD's Encore 4 to Encore 8 includes a very unusual group of recordings. Encore 4 includes his recordings made in 1931 to 1933. Many of these have jazz band backup to his vocals. Most of these were billed as Gene Austin and His Orchestra. They were recorded on lesser known labels of the period. Some of these labels were Banner, Perfect , Oriole and Domino. He begins to have a more developed jazz oriented style during this period. All selections were digitally restored by Vintage Recordings.
