Description: This antique footed basket crafted during the late Georgian era in England features a pierced rectangular foot supporting the larger rimmed basket. At its center is an etched flower, possibly a striped marigold or chrysanthemum. The basket measures approximately 2 inches high, 10 inches long and 6.25 inches wide. It sits on a 6.25 inch by 2.75 inch foot and weighs approximately 356 grams. The basket is hallmarked on its rim, with the lion passant and George III sovereign mark, indicating it was made between 1785-1820. The maker’s mark is obscured, with only the first initial of “W” clearly visible inside a square with concave sides. During this period, William Bateman was using a mark with concave sides. I believe him to be the maker of this piece, but cannot prove conclusively. The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found. The item(s) may show wear, fading, scratches, repairs, restoration, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. I note overall scratches consistent with age and some small dings as shown in photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing.
